Langston shines as Bootle is defeated
Chasetown today showed that they are here to play as they moved within two points of the playoffs with a 3-2 win over Bootle, which included two goals from Jack Langston.
The drama started as soon as the whistle was blown when a Thomas Unwin header fell in the box and was headed home, only for the referee to hold up play due to a foul on the goalkeeper, much to the annoyance of everyone associated with the Scholars. However, They took the lead on the quarter-hour mark when Sam Hughes felled Marvellous Onabirekhanlen. Up stepped Langston to fire the team in Blue into a 1-0 lead.
The Scholars held the lead until a Langston handball triggered a manic final ten minutes. First, Owen Robinson stepped up to score the subsequent penalty, only for Chasetown to go up the other end and retake the lead through a rare Langston header.
The drama did not stop there, as Bootle earned another penalty when Onabirekhanlen caught Lewis Earl with an illegal slide tackle. Robinson stepped up and struck his penalty in the exact same spot as last time, again beating the grasp of Wren. As soon as Bootle thought they had nicked a point, a scramble occurred in their box, allowing Onabirekhanlen to nip in and ensure all three points stayed in the Midlands.
The North Enders almost had an early goal when Ben Hodkinson hit a shot that bounced off the post in the sixth minute. Hodkinson came close again when James Wren had to push his shot wide of the post.
Bootle kept knocking on the door, but it was not to be as Chasetewon emerged victorious. They will hope to continue their run of form when they face off against second-bottom Trafford on the 28th of October.
